What makes something a photograph? The digital tools available to photographers blur the line between photograph, mixed media and digital media. Because I used a flatbed scanner to isolate and publish sections from a collage do the images then become photographs? Look at Maggie Taylor's website and tell me - Can someone who uses a scanner instead of a camera still be a photographer?
I enjoy Maggie Taylor's work quite a bit, but I wouldn't call it photography... I guess that I would call it digital mixed media? Or digital art?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure. I have had two people say that images produced by the scanner are the same as images from a camera.
ReplyDeleteThe artist I mention Maggie Taylor has won numerous photography awards for her work and is a photographer by training.
Perhaps the definition of a photographer needs to be expanded?
